Guardrail
A guardrail is a rule that limits what automation or an agent may do, enforced outside the logic it limits. Good ones name the condition, such as confidence or reversibility, and the action taken when it fails. A guardrail the agent can reason around is advice, not a control.
What Guardrail means
Where the guardrail runs matters. One checked inside the agent's own reasoning can be argued past. One enforced by the platform before an action fires cannot.
Vendors describe guardrails in marketing terms. Look for the named check, the threshold and the log.
Guardrail in Mate Security's own words
Mate says it scores Confidence, Precision and Reversibility before an agent acts alone, and that the platform enforces the scores outside the agent's reasoning loop. Mate Security documentation, read 2026-11-03
